Global inflation trends influence cargo theft patterns

The latest Annual Cargo Theft Report for 2022, published by TT Club, TAPA EMEA, and BSI SCREEN Intelligence, shows an overall decline in cargo theft incidents over the previous year.

The report also suggests that in 2022, criminals concentrated more on stealing food, beverages, fuel, and auto parts, which correlates with the inflationary effect on the value of these items. Specifically, TAPA EMEA, operating in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, identified a significant year-on-year increase in the number of fuel thefts in the region, mostly in Germany and the UK. The higher-value fuel crimes also point to the involvement of bigger organized crime groups.

MSC Irina is also the first vessel with an innovative air lubrication system that should reduce the vessel’s energy consumption and associated carbon dioxide emissions by 3-4% per year.
