Being wrapped in a blanket is synonymous with feeling cozy and safe. Now imagine your fragile and valuable cargo getting the same treatment. This is how blanket wrap shipping works. Cargo blankets are a thing, and if you’ve never heard of them, read our new post.

This article is a short and simple overview of what blanket wrap shipping is, how it is beneficial both for shippers and carriers, what services it is often paired with, and other useful details.

What is blanket wrap shipping?

Blanket wrap delivery, or pad wrap delivery, is a freight service when cargo is protected from mechanical damage by a thick, soft blanket it’s wrapped in (hence the name). It is used when the cargo is oversized and sensitive but unprotected by packaging, or the shipper worries that the packaging may prove insufficient.

Blanket wrap shipping is usually conducted on trucks with air ride suspension, a mechanism based on flexible rubber bags filled with air by electric compressors. It dampens shocks, bumps, and vibrations from the ride much better than leaf or coil spring suspension systems, thus contributing to the safety of goods.

Blankets are distinguished based on such characteristics as:
